I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Mura, a passionate advocate for using lifestyle medicine to prevent and treat chronic diseases. Dr. Mura's journey into lifestyle medicine began during medical school when he felt his training focused too much on medications rather than disease prevention through nutrition and lifestyle changes. His interest grew during his hospital internship, where he saw countless patients suffering from conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease that are closely tied to lifestyle factors.
Dr. Mura realized many of these diseases could be better managed, reduced, or even reversed through changes in diet, exercise, sleep, stress levels, and other lifestyle habits. This led him to pursue further training to become certified in lifestyle medicine. His vision is to Eradicate Lifestyle Diseases Dr. Mura explained that the mission of his organization, Dr. Mura Health, is to eradicate lifestyle diseases in Africa through education and lifestyle programs. He believes that by following biblical health principles around fresh air, sunlight, rest, exercise, water, and diet, we can prevent the bulk of modern chronic illnesses.
During our conversation, Dr. Mura shared inspiring patient stories that demonstrated the incredible impact lifestyle interventions can have. Within just months of making changes, many of his patients saw dramatic improvements in conditions like type 2 diabetes, autoimmune disease, digestive issues, and cardiovascular disease. The scientific evidence has been clear on this for decades, yet our medical system is very slow to utilize lifestyle treatments.
